Justin "Juice" Kennedy

Freestyle Skiing Park City with Justin “Juice” Kennedy

March 12, 2021 //  by wpengine//  Leave a Comment

Q. Justin, you are an amazing Freestyle Skier, tell us, what are your plans for this upcoming year?

A. Thank you, I love the life I live. I feel fortunate to be in a position that allows me to spend the majority of my time traveling, skiing and spending time with different friends all over. This upcoming year I plan to travel to the mid-west and explore new areas with new people while filming for another OnSlaught Crew movie. I want to spend more time in backcountry areas skiing lines and building big ole’ booters while still putting together my best urban part to date.

Q. What are your 2 favorite Resorts to ski when you come to P.C.? Why?

A. I love skiing at Park City, this was my main resort for 4 years as I went to college in Utah. I have so many awesome memories from competing at this mountain back in high school, coaching the freestyle team during college and taking countless laps through one of the best terrain parks in the world.

My second pick is Brighton Resort, it’s a much different vibe than skiing at PC, their park is amazing and it’s a rad resort to rip on pow day.

Q. People love food, especially in Park City. Do you have a favorite place you go each time you’re in town?

A. My lifestyle requires me to live frugally so I’m generally looking for a good bang for my buck. I have a lot of memories eating at Albertos with friends after a nice day on the mountain.

Q. You’re coming off of a recent ACL surgery, will that change how you ski?Justin "Juice" Kennedy

A. The new knee is feeling good! I am 7.5 months out of my reconstructive surgery and I’ll be skiing again very soon. It really has taken time, I’m working hard to rebuild muscle and confidence, consistent PT goes far. Taking it easy is the goal for skiing this spring and summer in preparation for a big comeback season next year. I’ve learned a lot through this experience and truly believe I will come back stronger than before, both mentally and physically.

Q. We’ve had the opportunity to work with you a handful of times now. When you’re here at Summit, what treatment do you enjoy the most and why?

A. I put a beating on my body and it’s so helpful to come see the experts at Summit. I am now a big fan of cupping, I had never tried this prior to my visits to Summit, it’s cool to literally see how effective the treatment is by the color left behind. The deep tissue massages are something I miss very much when I’m not in Park City. Katrina is a pro and knows how to find those uncomfortable areas and get them straightened out.

Q. What is the OnSlaught Crew? How did it come to be? What is the crew planning this year?

A. The OS Crew is a group of extremely passionate people who love extreme sports and the outdoors. We have been making sturdy gear to shred in or wear around town since 2007, and we have put out 5 full length ski movies and gone on tour to premiere these films all over the northwest and Canada. Putting on rail jams, collaborating with resorts and giving back to extreme sports communities is something we love to do. Our headquarters is in Boise, ID.

My older brother Mason and I started OnSlaught Crew in 2007 with our friends, we began documenting our extreme sports and making clothing. It all started as a group of friends who wanted to be the ones in the movies we would watch. We channeled or inspiration from Level1, Matchstick productions and other big names in the action sports industry to creating our own crew to push the limits of our sports.

The Crew has spent this season traveling around California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Montana putting some serious work on the new OS movie that will be released this fall. It’s going to be bigger and better than ever before! I can’t tell you too much about what’s in store yet, gotta wait and see for yourself. Here is our full film from 2020 to get you stoked.

Q. How old were you when you first started skiing?

A. I grew up snowboarding from age 5 to 11; at this point I tried out my older brother’s skis for a day and immediately fell in love. I bought my first pair of skis on the way down the mountain that same day. I still like to snowboard from time to time but I will always love the way skiing feels and the trick variety that can be achieved on skis vs. snowboarding.

Q. What do you love most about skiing?

A. I love tons of things about skiing, it’s difficult for me to narrow it down. I love what skiing has led me to, the opportunities and friendships that it has provided me and will continue to provide for many years to come is very special.

Q. You ski all over North America, besides Park City, what other place do you enjoy skiing frequently during the season?

A. Whistler Resort is one of my all-time favorite places to travel to and ski. The mountains are beautiful and I always enjoy the Canadian experience. Boreal Resort in Cali is always super fun to hit up as well, I have been a guest at Woodward summer camps there which is super sick. Mount Hood is great for summer skiing, I have been the last 5 seasons in a row, mostly because this resort turns in to a hub for people all over the northwest to come ski and camp in the summer, the volcano vibes are unlike any other. My hometown resort, Bogus Basin is a must ski every season when I’m home between travels, it’s where it all started for me and the crew so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Q. Who does your filming? Obviously someone good has to be following you as you do yourtricks.

A. There are too many to name here. My brother, girlfriend and I film each other a bunch. There are different films that I like to link up with in different areas that I travel to. Drew Lederer is really fun to work with when I’m in Park City, he is a legend in the film game and I have complete confidence that he will get the sickest shot every single time. Here is the most recent project that Drew and I put together for JSkis.

Q. What activities do you enjoy in the summer time or when you aren’t chasing the snow around?

A. I am a lover of many action sports. I spend my summers in Idaho where I ride dirt bikes, rollerblade, ride my bike, wakeboard, bounce on trampolines and do just about anything I can catch on.

Q. What’s your end goal? Are you training for something specific?

A. My end goal is to quit my summer job and be able to make enough money through OnSlaught sales and skiing partnerships to travel year-round. I would really like to get overseas to do some skiing and learn more about different cultures. My sights are set on competing in XGames RealSki, a video contest that only the best in the street skiing / backcountry gets an invite to. XGames would be a dream come true, I grew up watching XGames to be skiing at that level would be amazing.

Q. What went into the making of your 2019-2020 Season Edit that you just released?

A. More than the average person would comprehend, so much time and energy goes into every single clip. I put in an incredible amount of hard work, personal money and raw dedication into pursuing my passion last winter. It wouldnt be possible without the help of so many good people. I am truly grateful for everyone who had a part in helping move snow, filming, editing and encouraging me to do what I love.
